ISLE OF DOGS

Introduction:
Our group project theme is 'connect' and we have been given Isle of Dogs as our location. Initially we began to research the area, brainstorming possible ideas and taking note of everyone's photography styles. We then came up with the idea of photographing different clubs and societies within the area which bring individuals together.

First Reccie Trip:
We took a trip to the Isle of Dogs Bowling Club on the 4th October and inquired about basing our project around there. Unfortunately, we found out that bowling season was over and therefore couldn't do our project there.
Below are some images from our trip
Along with the bowling club we also took a trip to the Blackwall Basin looking at contacting some of the residence, but had no luck. Our idea would have been to do a documentary style project, using environmental portraiture to photograph the residents who live there. From photographing this area I would've hoped to gain an insight into the history of the area, along with the residents and their life stories. However, I plan on possibly taking another trip there in hope of seeing someone to chat to about the project.

Treatments:
Here are the two treatments which I created for our 'connect' project. The theatre moodboard focuses on using a slow shutter speed to capture the movement made by dancers and performers, along with lighting and colours which help add to performances. The boat moodboard focuses on documenting people in the place in which they live or visit often, inspired by photographer Bert Teunissen and his project 'Domestic Landscapes'. His work can be found here: http://domestic-landscapes.com

We then organised a meeting with the manager of The Space theatre group https://space.org.uk where he gave us a bit of background information about the theatre and what they do there, of which we found that the manager hires out the area to performing arts group as a space to perform and rehearse their shows. They are a charity and therefore create the option for groups around the area to perform. During the time we have to create this project there are 7 shows running, therefore we have the opportunity to photograph rehearsals and meet the performers of certain shows, focusing on posed images and headshots, as well as more in the moment, unposed images.
Here are a few images I took from our trip to The Space
I have also got in contact with the manager of the Millwall Rugby Club and have arranged a meeting to talk about the possibility of photographing there.
